Abstract:
Over the past decade, controlled substance diversion prevention programs, or CSDPPs, have become a fixture within health systems and pharmacy departments. The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Guidelines on Preventing Diversion of Controlled Substances suggest that the CSDPP committee should be led by a designated diversion officer who coordinates all aspects of the program (Clark, et al., 2022). Like any leadership position, succession planning needs to be considered for the diversion officer role. As time progresses, CSDPPs will be challenged by team turnover and will be required to plan ahead for these transitions in order to maintain compliance and minimize the risk of drug diversion.
The purpose of this webinar is to discuss navigating the challenges of inheriting a CSDPP and how to successfully build upon the program’s pre-existing infrastructure.
Objectives:
- Evaluate the degree to which succession planning is necessary for diversion officer personnel changes
- Identify the obstacles and challenges presented to the incoming diversion officer and examine how to overcome those challenges
- Share insights on your own lessons learned, advice for others that are facing similar situations.
Who Should Attend?
This webinar is designed for IHFDA members, including pharmacy and compliance officers, pharmacy directors, IT and anyone involved in the management and prevention of drug diversion within the healthcare organization.
